Whether you love it or hate it Halloween does have one rather glorious perk: an excuse to eat chocolate – and lots of it! This is a super easy recipe (it basically consists of melting chocolate) that you can whip us this Halloween as a nod to the occasion – get your children involved in making it, hand the batch out to trick or treaters or just sit and eat the lot with friends whilst carving pumpkins (this is what I did). Happy Halloween and enjoy!

Makes one large slab

Prep time: 15 minutes

Chilling time: 2 hours

Ingredients

  • 400 g good quality milk or dark chocolate
  • 75 white chocolate
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • a selection of sweets (optional)
  • 1 pipping bag

Method

  1. Break the chocolate into two separate heat proof bowls and add a tablespoon of coconut oil to each. Bring two saucepans of water to a simmer and set the bowls on top of each. Melt the chocolate, stirring it occasionally until smooth and glossy. This should take around 5 minutes.
  2. Line a large baking tray with grease-proof paper. Pour the milk/ dark chocolate onto this tray and use the back of your spoon to ensure it spreads out a little.
  3. Place the pipping bag nozzle end down into a large cup (this helps to prop it open and up) and then fill it with the melted white chocolate. Cut a very small hole in the point of the bag to release the white chocolate.
  4. Using the white chocolate draw several circular swirls onto the darker chocolate slab. Take a cocktail stick and starting from the middle of each swirl pull it through the white chocolate to the outside. Repeat this, working your way around each circle until a spider’s web effect appears. Sprinkle sweets over the slab and then place it in the fridge for two hours to solidify.
  5. Take it out of the fridge and use a sharp knife to slice it up into bite sized pieces.
